Wellness Examinations and Immunizations

Wellness ExamThe gradual onset of health problems in an apparently healthy pet often go unnoticed. Once symptoms appear, the condition may be too difficult or costly to diagnose and treat. Age is not a disease; however, there are many conditions, which if diagnosed early, can be completely reversed or controlled for extended periods of time.

At least once and perhaps twice a year, your pet needs a complete physical examination. Remember, your pet's lifespan is shorter than ours. A lot can happen in 12 months. For more information see our Senior Pets Section.

Due to the many recent discoveries and innovations in veterinary medicine, your pet can be protected from most major diseases. Today, many immunizations and preventive treatments are available that did not exist just a few years ago. Vaccination protocols are individualized for your pet. We take into account the exposures and risks your pet faces in your community and where you travel. The staff at Plainfield Animal Hospital can help you decide what preventive measures are necessary for your pet(s).

MouseOur Veterinarians are available to assist you with information and care for your "pocket pets." Our knowledgeable staff can provide nutritional and husbandry advice for your furry loved ones including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cell therapy is a treatment option for dogs suffering from arthritis and ligament injuries that cause chronic pain. It can be used in all joints for arthritis. This advanced therapy yields many positive health benefits for your pet. Dr. Isabel Perez is certified in stem cell therapy and performs stem cell therapy procedures at Plainfield Animal Hospital.

Stem cells are derived from your dog's own fat cells and are injected into the affected joint. The best candidates for stem cell therapy are dogs with arthritis or ligamentous injuries who:

  • Are not responding well to medication.
  • May not be a good surgical candidate.
  • Have localized arthritis or immune mediated arthritis.
  • Will likely need long term therapy.

There is a 70-80% response rate in otherwise healthy pets. On average, there is a 30-50% improvement in lameness in pets that respond to treatment. Please ask Dr. Scott Linick and the veterinarians at Plainfield Animal Hospital how stem cell therapy can benefit your canine companion.
