Radiology (X-rays)

X-rayThe ability to provide a range of diagnostic techniques is essential for rapidly diagnosing your pet's medical problems. For the most part, your pet is unable to describe his or her symptoms. As a result, we need to rely on additional techniques in order to make an accurate diagnosis. The better the diagnostic technology and equipment, the more accurate the diagnosis.

Radiology, the most common form of diagnostic imaging, allows us to view the shape, size, and location of organs inside your pet's body. Radiographs (x-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. X-rays are useful in examining your pet's bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas of the body. An x-ray can detect a fractured bone, cancerous tumor, heart problem and locate an obstruction or foreign body in your pet's stomach or intestine. X-rays and Ultrasound are often utilized if cancer is suspected. We also perform x-rays for evaluation and certification by OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals).

Plainfield Animal Hospital has invested in the latest digital x-ray technology for your pet's diagnosis. Digital x-rays are incredibly beneficial for both you and your pet. Unlike traditional film x-rays, digital radiographs are more detailed and of higher quality, leading to a faster, more accurate diagnosis. Digital x-rays are easier to take than film x-rays, resulting in less time on the x-ray table and less stress for your pet. Because the images are digital, your pet's x-rays can be saved to a disc and easily transmitted to specialists and consultants should further diagnosis or treatment be required.

Veterinary Ultrasound

UltrasoundUltrasound is a non-invasive modern technique that produces a visual map of the interior of the body, and is often crucial to the comprehensive diagnosis of diseases of the heart, liver, kidneys, gallbladder, spleen and other internal organs. Plainfield Animal Hospital uses advanced ultrasound equipment that is similar to equipment used in human hospitals. The highly-detailed images produced using ultrasound lead to faster, more accurate treatment for your pet.

Diagnostic Laboratory Testing

diagnosticsOur extensive laboratory provides fast and accurate information that is critical to the sick or injured pet. With our modern, in-house laboratory diagnostic equipment animals receive appropriate treatment immediately after arriving at the hospital.

We are equipped to perform complete blood counts and chemistry profiles, urinalysis and parasitology screening on site. We also perform pre-anesthetic blood testing. This important procedure can greatly reduce the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery. We use a well know professional laboratory to perform additional testing when needed.
