Reproduction Services
Plainfield Animal Hospital's reproduction services are headed by Dr. Kurt Blaicher. Our hospital is one of only four facilities in New Jersey certified by the American Kennel Club (AKC) for freezing and storing canine semen. Dr. Blaicher uses the Camelot Farms method of semen pelleting and freezing, ensuring accurate assessment of optimal breeding numbers on a given sample. Dr. Blaicher has professional interests in reproductive services (for 15 years) and is available for diagnosing and treating difficult breeding issues in dogs and cats.
Feline and canine reproductive services offered at Plainfield Animal Hospital are as follows:
- AKC-approved canine semen freezing and storage
- Canine semen evaluation
- Infertility/sub-fertility workups
- Canine artificial insemination, including standing, fresh-chilled, and frozen semen A.I.
- Surgical intrauterine insemination, utilizing frozen, fresh-chilled or collected semen
- Pregnancy diagnosis, utilizing ultrasound or radiographs
- Pregnancy management
- Estrus induction/suppression in bitches
- Ovulation timing
- Shipping of fresh-chilled or frozen semen world-wide
- Canine and feline c-sections, utilizing state-of-the-art anesthetic protocols, monitoring, epidural medications, and a highly-trained support staff
- Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certification of hips, elbows, patellae, and thyroid function
- Perinatal care
- Medical and surgical management of canine and feline pyometra
Forms for OFA registries are available online (www.ofa.org), and can be partially completed at home, and presented with your dog when OFA services are needed. Forms needed for AKC-associated breeding can also be downloaded from www.akc.org and completed at home. Dr. Blaicher is always happy to consult with your veterinarian when time or distance precludes frequent travel to Plainfield Animal Hospital for serial hormone evaluations, treatments and other tests.
